Healthier hearts in the workplace

Heart Week is Australia’s national heart health awareness week, held each year in May.

It’s a powerful opportunity for workplaces to put heart health front and centre by starting meaningful conversations, sharing practical information, and supporting employees to take positive steps for their heart health.

This Heart Week (4 - 10 May), we’re inviting workplaces across Australia to never miss a BEAT by encouraging employees to understand their personal risk of heart disease and take action.

Why heart health at work matters

Improving heart health in the workplace can have a lasting impact on employee wellbeing, engagement, and productivity. When people are supported to look after their hearts, they’re better able to show up - at work and in life.

Heart disease also places a significant burden on Australia’s economy, costing an estimated $14 billion each year in healthcare expenses, lost productivity and premature workforce exit, making prevention not just a health priority, but a workplace and economic one too.

By providing simple, trusted information and creating space for action, workplaces can empower their people to make healthier choices.

Make heart health a priority

Set aside 30 minutes during Heart Week for all staff to focus on their heart health. This time could be used to encourage your people to learn more about the risk factors for heart disease and why addressing them early is so important.

Sharing trusted resources helps employees feel informed, supported, and confident about their heart health. Explore heart-healthy resources and tools below.
